Instructions

- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, about 5–7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 3 minutes.
- Stir in the marinara sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat and simmer for 10–15 minutes.
- Prepare the Cheese Filling:
- In a medium bowl, mix ricotta cheese, 1 cup of mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, egg, nutmeg (if using), salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Assemble the Lasagna:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Lay down a single layer of cooked San Giorgio lasagna noodles.
- Spread a layer of cheese filling over the noodles, followed by a layer of meat sauce.
- Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of meat sauce.
- Top with the remaining mozzarella cheese and additional Parmesan.
- Bake the Lasagna:
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, replace the ground beef with sautéed mushrooms or a plant-based meat alternative.
- Add spinach or zucchini for extra vegetables.
